The travel and tourism business is thriving in many areas of the region, with representatives from more than 150 nations attending the annual Arabian Travel Market trade expo in Dubai. According to Julia Simpson, “President of the World Tourism and Tourism Council (WTTC), tourism is “absolutely booming” all over the world, with the Middle East outpacing all other regions.”

This development may be ascribed to Dubai’s established image as a secure and high-quality destination, as other GCC nations expand their tourism offers. However, the region has several issues, notably in terms of sustainability and climatic effects. The region has seen catastrophic flooding; thus sustainability is a primary issue.
Focus on Sustainability and Authenticity
Visitors desire authenticity and unique experiences, and places like Oman and Saudi Arabia provide a wealth of cultural and natural attractions. Oman, in particular, stands out, with its southern section boasting a greener and more moderate environment, making it an appealing destination for travelers.
The conflict in Gaza has also had an impact on regional travel and tourism, with certain locations seeing a decrease in tourist numbers. However, places outside of the immediately afflicted region, such as Egypt and the Gulf, continue to see healthy travel and tourism levels.
Despite these problems, the Middle East tourist industry is growing, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and authenticity.
